The traces we leave behind when we die fade more or less quickly, depending on the social category to which we belong and the legacy we bequeath. My grandfather had no photograph of himself as a child, nor any antique object to pass on that would tell his story. When he died, his Spanish childhood disappeared with him. All that remained in my mind was a vague recollection of a story: in 1932, at the age of 10, my grandfather fled Spain and its misery, crossing the border alone, only to meet my grandmother a few years later. As I questioned the members of my family, I realized that no one had the same version of this story, even though it was a founding one.I decided to confront the mechanism of forgetting and the means of resisting it.I gathered the versions, filled in the gaps, retraced the path and mixed mediums such as photography, drawing and video capture to create a polyphonic narrative best able to tell the story's flaws.On this fragile border between the real and the imaginary, I have traced the thread of an intimate story rooted in a collective history.

Les traces que l’on laisse derrière soi à notre mort s’effacent plus ou moins vite suivant la catégorie sociale à laquelle on appartient et l’héritage que l’on lègue. Mon grand-père n’avait pas de photographie de lui enfant, ni d’objet ancien à transmettre qui raconterait son histoire. A sa mort, son enfance espagnole a disparu avec lui. Il n’existait plus que vaguement dans mon esprit le souvenir d’un récit : en 1932, à l’âge de 10 ans, mon grand-père a fui l’Espagne et la misère et a traversé seul la frontière pour y rencontrer quelques années plus tard ma grand- mère. En questionnant les membres de ma famille je me suis rendue compte que plus personne n’avait la même version de cette histoire pourtant fondatrice.J’ai décidé alors de me confronter au mécanisme de l’oubli et aux moyens d’y résister.J’ai rassemblé les versions, comblé les vides, refait le chemin et j’ai mélangé les médiums tels que la photographie, le dessin, les captures vidéos afin de créer un récit polyphonique le plus à même de raconter les failles de cette histoire.Sur cette frontière, fragile liseré entre réel et imaginaire, j’ai remonté le fil d’une histoire intime ancrée dans une histoire collective
